Hasselbaink: Sheffield Utd midfielder Lundstram knew what he was doing with Veltman red

Former Chelsea star Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has slammed Sheffield United midfielder John Lundstram over his red card in the draw with Brighton.

Hasselbaink claims Lundstram knew "exactly was his was doing" with his challenge against Joel Veltman.

He said: "He knows exactly what he's doing. He's kept his leg straight so he won't get any pain.

"He's protecting himself, but he knows that if the defender is coming he will be the one to walk away."

Fellow pundit Roy Keane agreed, saying there was 'no excuse' for Lundstram challenge.

He said: "There is no excuses. He's taken a bad touch and that's where his trouble start.

"He's running at pace, he's in momentum, he's not in control. The referee's job is to protect the players and erm yeah.

"I thought it was a red straight away. You can tell by the players reaction. The referee helps him out a little bit by giving him the yellow - knowing he will get the chance to take a look at it on VAR.

"But once he went over to the screen and the problem with these situations is that if you look at anything in slow motion he's not in control.

"That's the bottom of it - it's up in the air. Anything can happen and he's got to go."
