Halifax Town are thrilled for Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy after his England call last week.
Vardy is the latest from the non-league to win a senior call.
"Some of these lads just need a chance," David Bosomworth told the Daily Mail.
Bosomworth is chairman of Halifax Town, who bought Vardy from Stocksbridge Park Steels for £15,000, the first transfer fee paid by a club re-born in 2008.
"Jamie was quite clearly talented and it was incredible that he hadn't been spotted sooner.
"Clubs were watching him and couldn't make a decision. It was as if they thought there must be some catch.
"We always knew he was special. He had hunger, desire and work-rate. I hope his story is a message to players rejected by Football League clubs who think about packing it in. Don't. Go into non-League and show what you can do."
