Guardiola delighted with performance of injury hit Man City

Manchester City ended their Champions League group campaign top of the pile and into the last 16 knockout stage hoping to avoid any of the big names when the draw is made.

All they needed in their home clash with Hoffenheim was to avoid defeat to head the group but had to overcome a slow start, falling behind to a penalty, before a brace from the impressive Leroy Sane saw them home to a 2-1 victory.

Boss Pep Guardiola was asked about the result considering his injury hit squad: "Incredible. Today we finished the group stage on top and join the best 16 teams.

"It's a big compliment to everybody to get the players fit for this group and finish top.

"The second half we were exceptional. In the first half they scored a goal when we were flat and they were better, not because they did special things but because we kept giving the ball away and Hoffenheim took advantage.

"But after the penalty we went back to normal and created numerous chances and hit the post with incredible counter attacks, but we must learn to be more precise and in the second half all the players improved."
