Greece coach Gus Poyet is backing Real Madrid midfielder Fede Valverde over his clash with Villarreal's Alex Baena.
Baena has made a statement to police after he was allegedly punched by Valverde in the Santiago Bernabeu stadium carpark after Villarreal's 3-2 win.
Cadena SER is reporting Valverde assures that Baena mentioned the initial problems suffered by Mina Bonino, Valverde's partner, during her current pregnancy with the couple's second child .
"Cry now that your son is not going to be born," he allegedly stated during the previous Copa del Rey match.
"Tell me now what you told me about my son on the field," they say Valverde said to Baena before allegedly punching the Villarreal player directly to the cheekbone.
Baena, for his part, denies that he said anything about Valverde's family.
"It is totally false that I said that," he tweeted after the clash.
Poyet, meanwhile, told AS: “If I look at it from Valverde's side, I would have done the same. I have no doubt that it could have happened. If something else happened, we'll see if it goes somewhere, if there's an investigation... Analysing it based on what Fede says he (Baena) told him, I think he fell short. Then everyone does what they want. There are limits to speaking.
“We will have to wait. I don't know where it will end up. I hope it doesn't come to nothing. These are things that happen in football for a reason and some get along better than others."
