Gomes eyeing Tottenham defensive records

Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes is on the brink of several club records.

Gomes has kept six consecutive clean sheets at home and needs two more shut-outs to break the current club record - set by Ray Clemence during the 1986-87 campaign.

Spurs' record of just 11 home goals conceded in a season, set in 1920, will also be broken if they do not concede more than one goal in the White Hart Lane finale against Manchester City on May 16.

It is a remarkable turnaround for Gomes, who was initially replaced by Carlo Cudicini after Harry Redknapp arrived in November but has fought back to help Spurs go from relegation candidates to European hopefuls.

"I think we can do it," said the Brazilian. "When I play I don't so much look for such things, only to win the games. Now we have a chance to make history it is amazing.

"Anything can happen in the game but at home we have such great support we can enjoy the moment.

"We have won a lot of matches 1-0 but that doesn't matter, three points is all that matters because we want to qualify for the Europa League.

"I have been lucky to play behind such a tight defensive unit. They are unbelievable. Whoever plays has been excellent and help so much to keep a clean sheet."
