Gold Coast United veteran Steve Fitzsimmons admits he is looking at nothing more than simply playing his role for the club.
The 34-year old, who celebrated the birth of his first child during the week, understands he is no longer a first choice player but feels he can still do a solid job for coach Miron Bleiberg whenever he decides to call on him.
''I can hold my head up high and I'd love to get a look in against Adelaide (United this weekend).
"Miron says if I'm playing well enough age is not an issue," he added.
"My performances probably warrant more starts than I've had this season but Miron makes the calls. But I am not shy to knock on his door and ask him why I am not in - and a lot of it is tactical.
"Physically I feel better than I did 10 years ago. The only faster players at the club than me over 20m metres are Tahj Minniecon and Golgol Mebrahtu, and they are both over 10 years younger than me."
Gold Coast meet league leaders Adelaide on Sunday at Skilled Park with Fitzsimmons tussling for a starting position with Steve Pantelidis and John Curtis.
