Gold Coast United coach Miron Bleiberg believes when there is a FIFA-designated break, the A-League should also stop. This weekend, the Australian national team take on Korea Republic in an international friendly in Seoul, but the Australian domestic competition will not break like all others in the world do.

Bleiberg, who will lose Socceroos star Jason Culina for this weekend's clash with Sydney FC, says that it doesn't make sense to continue on with this policy.

''If we want to build the A-League, if we want to make sure it's not a backyard league, then we need our best players on the field,'' he said.

'It's not just about the Socceroos either. We want to bring quality imports to our league, and some of them will also be called up by their national teams.

"If we want to attract players from around the world, then we need to go by FIFA rules, otherwise the clubs will think twice about signing them.

"Nobody has told me why we're playing this weekend, and I would think North Queensland (who lose Shane Stefanutto) will be asking the same question.''
