Giuliani exclusive: How ex-Sampdoria star Rossi went from Serie C to beating Croatia

Italian coaches are making huge waves across Europe - from East to West.

Among the best examples of this maxim is Marco Rossi, a successful coach abroad.

Rossi transformed Honvéd (with all due respect, not really Videoton or Ferencvàros), into Hungarian champions - 26 years after the last success in the League. But he was a coach almost ignored in Italy.

However, Rossi's work was so impressive he won the Hungarian national team bench, with which he has already earned a victory that will remain in history. We are talking about the 2-1 success against Croatia, the World Cup runners-up.

As his agent Nicola Giuliani told Tribalfootball.com: "Marco Rossi, Roberto [Mancini]'s former team-mate, a strong central defender for Sampdoria, now finds himself to be a peer with the emerging Hungarian national team which, surprisingly, but not for those who know Marco well, beat Croatia as world champion."

Adam Szalai and Mate Pàtkai secured the three important points in terms of Euro2020 qualification. An offensive but solid style of football that allowed Rossi to leave an indelible mark on the history of modern Hungarian football.

The coach of Hungary has an incredible story. Managing Scafatese and Cavese in Serie C, where he spent much of his development.

So much training and hard work, until the call of Honvéd, where his new career and a new story began.

Giuliani explained: "Marco really ground things out, he built a team from the rubble of Honved in Budapest that with the lowest budget in the league managed to win the national title and then go to the Champions League preliminaries. He then went to DAC in Slovakia where he immediately produced a historic Europa League qualifying result before being called to lead the Hungarian national team."

A former teammate of Roberto Mancini, another great Italian coach: now they are both on the bench of a European national teams. Is he ready to lead a bigger club team? Giuliani has no doubt: "Today he is ready to manage an important team."
