Giroud on Arsenal exit talk: Something deep inside me said I had to fight

Olivier Giroud has revisited talk of him leaving Arsenal this summer.

The France international admits he had plenty of offers to quit the Gunners, but insisted he wanted to stay and "fight" for the Arsenal cause.

He explained to RMC: "All summer I made brain knots. I had proposals. Now something told me deep down I had to stay at Arsenal.

"A departure this summer? Never say never, but with the proposals I preferred to stay. It's my choice. There are some who do not understand. There may be reasons for me to be leaving but I feel I have to stay. I want to fight.

"OM? There are many things that have been said. I did not like the shortcuts. There was never any question of a return to France. I was flattered to have been courted by OM and OL. Since I was a little boy I've been a fan of OM. They have a great project. They tried to convince me on the phone. I told Rudi Garcia that it was not my goal to return to France. A return to France? The door is not permanently closed in the medium term. In the short term it is closed, in the medium term not."
