Giroud admits he approached Wenger over reduced Arsenal role

Olivier Giroud says he openly sought answers from Arsene Wenger earlier in the season.

The French striker has started just 12 matches for Arsenal this campaign.

Giroud scored a vital goal in the Premier League against Manchester United in November and was hoping to start in the Champions League against PSG and admits he needed to know why he remained in a bit-part role.

"The coach explained to me that he was adopting this system to find a defensive balance," he told L'Equipe.

"Sometimes I played with (Alexis) Sanchez on the left, but the rest of the time I have to adapt to the tactical decisions.

"For me, the most difficult moment was that after scoring an important goal against Manchester United, I thought I had scored some points and that I would start against PSG. But no.

"So I asked to speak to the coach to understand. I accept his decisions but I tell him what I think, without being negative, without antagonising.

"There are no misunderstandings between us."
