Giaccherini hopeful Sunderland move will lead to World Cup place

According the Newcastle ChronicleSunderland midfielder Emanuele Giaccherini hopes his decision to join the black Cats from Serie A champions Juventus will help earn him a place in the Italy squad for the World Cup. Giaccherini, who moved to Wearside in a £6.5m move in July, says: "I wanted to come to England to play regularly. At Juventus, I wasn't given a consistent place in the team.

"And next summer there is the World Cup, so I needed to play regularly. The World Cup was a big reason behind me coming here.
