Gervinho jumps to defence of under pressure Arsenal boss Wenger

Gervinho has jumped to the defence of under pressure Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

New signing Gervinho, who cost £10.7million from Lille, says people must remember what Wenger has achieved.

He said: "It's Arsene's job to choose his players and I believe in his vision. Whatever player Arsene picks to play for Arsenal, I respect that and so should the fans.

"Critics and criticism are part of the game and I've not been affected by it.

"But people should remember Arsene is the one who has brought the club to its current level, he's the one who has helped make its great history.

"Of course, I'd have been happy to have played alongside Cesc and Samir because they are both world-class players.

"But, unfortunately, they have moved on in their careers just like I have with my move from Lille to Arsenal and I must respect the paths they have followed.

"I'd still have signed for Arsenal if they had been sold before I arrived - there are still great players at this club."
