Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson was full of praise for skipper Steven Gerrard following his match-winning treble against Napoli in the Europa League.
The England international came on at half-time at Anfield when the Reds were down 1-0 after Ezequiel Lavezzi's opener for the Italian outfit and managed to hit a hat-trick to guide his side to victory.
Hodgson said it was Gerrard's magic which allowed the Merseysiders to come through with the goods.
"I thought we were unlucky to be 1-0 down at half-time," he said. "I don't think we played as well as we can but I don't think we deserved to be a goal down.
"We showed an awful lot of character and determination in the second half and it took some Steven Gerrard magic, and courage and determination, which I thought epitomised our second-half performance.
"He was the catalyst."
