Steven Gerrard was delighted for his old Liverpool pal Michael Owen after he netted for England in Saturday's victory over Israel.

Gerrard said of the Newcastle striker: "It was great to see Michael getting on the scoresheet and getting a few chances.

"I thought the goal he scored was actually the hardest of his chances, but Michael Owen is a great goalscorer and hopefully he can deliver the same for us against Russia on Wednesday."
