Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard believes Newcastle United could lose Rafa Benitez, even if they stay up.

Gerrard was speaking after Liverpool's 2-0 win on Saturday.

He said, "It will be Rafa Benitez (who keeps Newcastle up) because he is capable of setting a team up that organised that can get results. They'd be bottom without him. Yes. They are a Championship team with a Premier League manager."

On the former Liverpool manager staying, Gerrard continued: "The only way he will stay is if it gets sorted upstairs. If Rafa is right in what he says, there needs to be a takeover, a change or whatever – if it happens I think he will stay because he's got a genuine connection with the fans, he's at a big club, he's got a great support. But there's a mess upstairs that needs to be sorted out."
