Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is poised to make a return in a Reds shirt in a legends match in Sydney early next year.

The 35-year-old will play for the Liverpool legends alongside the likes of Jamie Carragher, Dietmar Hamann and John Arne Riise in a match against Australian legends on January 7 at the ANZ Stadium.

Former Liverpool skipper Gerrard, who is currently with MLS club LA Galaxy, said on the Merseyside club's official website: "It will be great to play with the official Liverpool FC Legends.

"The squad looks like it's a great set of lads, it'll be good to get on the pitch with them.

"Our fans are the best and to play in front of them again will be emotional, I'm sure."
