Genoa coach Shevchenko on Sampdoria defeat: We played badly

Genoa coach Andriy Shevchenko admits they need a sharp improvement after defeat to Sampdoria on Friday night.

Shevchenko has only won one point so far since his appointment, with Genoa second from bottom on the table.

“It was a disappointment today," Shevchenko said at a press conference. “Nobody wants to lose the derby. We hoped to have a good match, but we immediately conceded the first goal, which we gave away.

“The first half was badly played, in the second we reacted, but we had to start right away.

“Right now, even trying new things, we are struggling to improve. Today, we saw a real reaction. We tried to change things, and we had chances, but we have to believe in it and move on."
