Genoa coach Alberto Malesani was delighted with his draw against Juventus.
Malesani had been reportedly on the verge of dismissal last week, but earned a creditable 2-2 draw in Turin.
"We have the youngest midfield in Serie A and Alexander Merkel is only 19," said Malesani.
"At times he plays with a little too much arrogance, as he has to be more consistent, but he is improving.
"This evening I didn't look at Juventus, but at how we were playing. I fielded all hard-working and fast players, something that I warned the President about, and in fact the team was very aggressive.
"We faced Juventus with open and attacking football, so I think we made a good impression.
"I saw the fans were happy today and so are we. So far we have not achieved all that we deserved to this season, so if luck turns our way then we can pick up a few more points."
