Olympique Lyon coach Bruno Genesio insists they didn't want to lose Mariano Diaz.
Mariano has returned to Real Madrid after they triggered a buy-back option in the striker's contract.
"Inside the club, no one wanted Mariano to leave," lamented Genesio.
"The player has decided to leave for various reasons. He scored 21 goals and had a very good season with us."
Mariano returns to Real Madrid for €22m.
