Geordie legend Paul Gascoigne believes Joey Barton will be regretting his actions at Liverpool.

Asked about the Newcastle United midfielder's situation, Gazza told TalkSport magazine: "He (Joey) wanted to win the game against Liverpool so badly, he's a scouser and an Evertonian I think, but it was a rash challenge and he will be regretting it now I'm sure."

On Alan Shearer, the Tottenham legend added: "When Al (Alan Shearer) took over I thought so, yes, (on whether Newcastle could stay up), but um, it's the home games, hopefully we can get something from them.

"I think five points from our two home games will keep us up now."
