Geordie legend Paul Gascoigne hopes Newcastle United can keep hold of their stars.

The England and Toon legend knows only too well the impact of selling big names after being flogged to Tottenham Hotspur back in 1988.

Gazza told the Evening Chronicle: "What great signings Demba Ba and Cisse have been. They've been fantastic. Cisse's goal against Chelsea was a bit special.

"It was a great finish, and hopefully it'll continue for him. The only problem is that teams like Newcastle have is that when you get a great player, it's can you keep hold of them? There's always someone willing to come in for them. It'll be the same with them."
