Gattuso hit with four match ban

AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso will serve a four-match ban by Uefa following his 'assault' of Tottenham assistant coach Joe Jordan. In disgraceful scenes at the San Siro last Tuesday the Italian head butted Jordan in the aftermath of Spurs' 1-0 UEFA Champions League victory, having earlier grabbed the 59-year-old former Scotland and Milan midfielder by the throat.

Uefa's Control and Disciplinary body have now handed the 33-year-old a four-match ban, which will apply to the next four Uefa matches for which he is eligible.

A statement on Uefa's official website read: "AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has been suspended for four Uefa club competition matches by the Uefa Control and Disciplinary Body.

"The Control and Disciplinary body ruled that Gattuso had assaulted the Tottenham Hotspur assistant coach Joe Jordan after the match."

The ban means Gattuso, who has three days to appeal, would not be available until the final should Milan continue to progress.
