Gallas happy with decision over Spurs gamble

William Gallas is delighted with his decision to join Tottenham last summer.

His move from Arsenal was controversial.

But he told Hotspur magazine, "Did I consider retirement? No. I wanted to play…there was no way that I would give up. I felt fine and knew I could play on.

"I then met up with Harry Redknapp and we had a chat about the possibilities. An added aspect on my shoulders was the fact that I had played for Chelsea and Arsenal and I appreciate that it was not easy for him either.

"One consideration was how the fans would react. Maybe some people would not want to see me play for Spurs but I told Harry that I just wanted to play and that he would not be disappointed. In the end it was OK and I think I passed my test but before that you couldn't be sure how it would go.

"The proof came with my new contract because that showed I had a good season. Now I want to build on that because every new season is an important one."
