Fulham striker Hugo Rodallega was pleased with his goalscoring performance in victory at former club Wigan Athletic.
At a time when footballers are often in the spotlight for the wrong reasons - and still struggling to shrug off the feel-good shadow cast by this summer's Olympics - Rodallega was exhibit A in the defence for his profession.
Rodallega explained: "I did not celebrate my goal because I have too much respect for Wigan and their fans.
"My life here over the last three years was unbelievable. I had an amazing time and I've got such good memories of things like scoring the winner at Stoke on the last day.
"I couldn't celebrate having been through all those great things with them. It was great when they applauded me back, unusual and unbelievable.
"It was also good for my team-mates to congratulate me. They told me I can now relax and enjoy myself now I've scored."
