Fulham open contract talks with Nevland

Fulham have opened new contract talks with Erik Nevland.

Many presumed the Norwegian would be pushed down the pecking order this month with the Cottagers linked with Lech Poznan striker Robert Lewandowski and Roma frontman Stefano Osaka likely to join next week.

However, Roy Hodgson is a keen admirer of the 32-year-old Nevland and would like the former Manchester United youngster to extend his stay.

"I definitely will offer Nevland a new contract. We will discuss the length of the contract with the player and his agent during January," he told Stavanger Aftenbladet.

Nevland also admitted he was keen on extending his stay with Fulham despite reported interest from Viking in his native Norway.

"It is fantastic to be in the Premier League," he stated. "And not something that you would give up on easily.

"I am very positive to be staying here but I don't want to say too much until I get an offer and see what that will mean."
