Fulham boss Martin Jol has jumped to the defence of Liverpool striker Luis Suarez over his clash with Manchester United's Patrice Evra.

Jol worked with Suarez during his time as Ajax boss.

And he said: "If it is true, I am surprised. At Ajax we had players from all over the world.

"He was my captain and his job was to make them feel comfortable. He was a real leader. A real leader would never do things like that."
