Friends of PSG star Leo Messi insist a return to Barcelona hasn't been formally discussed.

The former Barca captain has been linked with a return, where coach Xavi has openly stated he'd welcome back the Argentine great.

But a confidant told France Football: "At the moment, there has been no approach or contact from (Barca president Joan) Laporta with us, nor vice versa.

"Anyone who claims otherwise is lying."

On Barca, the source added: “Why didn't they use financial leverage last year? If it had been done at that time, Leo would still be a Barça player."
