Friedel could be given Tottenham farewell - Pochettino

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino could give retiring goalkeeper Brad Friedel a fairytale start before the end of the season.

On Thursday, the 43-year old American announced his decision to hang up his gloves at the end of the season but Pochettino could hand him his first start of the campaign against Everton on the final day if Spurs manage to secure a Europa League spot this weekend.

If Spurs beat Hull City on Saturday, and both Southampton and Swansea City lose, Friedel might start the final game of the season against the Toffees as a farewell.

"Always we need to be professional," Pochettino said.

"We have our emotion, but always in football you need to take a decision as a professional and we always need to show we are professional, and this is the way we always take.

"It might be easier to select him if we are guaranteed a top six spot. We are in a run to try to get the Europa League, to finish as high as possible in the table. After that, in football, you never know."
