A-League football has lured a second Australian Football League executive into the world game.

St Kilda chief executive Archie Fraser quit the AFL club to take up the role of head of operations for the A-League.

Fraser joins former North Melbourne player Ben Buckley as people with Australian football experience trying their hand in the world of soccer.

Buckley of course is the CEO of Football Federation Australia.

Fraser was born in Scotland and is a former professional footballer in his native country so will understand the needs of the game immediately.

"The most important aspect for me is that I am coming from a club culture," said Fraser, who spent four seasons at St Kilda.

"I know the CEOs, most of the coaches and some of the owners of the (A-League) clubs. I know what it means to deal with the clubs and the rank and file fans, the people who pay their money through the gate.

"I guess it had to come, given my background. But I was waiting for the right moment, the right time," Fraser said of his inevitable involvement in soccer.

"It needed to be something with the FFA as opposed to a club job."

Fraser replaces Rob Abernethy who has now headed up the 2015 Asian Cup finals bid.
