France coach Deschamps blasts Benzema: We're at point of no return

France coach Didier Deschamps says there's no way back for him and Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.

Deschamps admits accusations of racism from the striker were the final straw.

"Deschamps has succumbed to the pressure of a racist part of France," said the striker over why he has not played for France since before Euro2016.

Deschamps axed Benzema at the time after he became embroiled in an alleged blackmail plot.

For Deschamps, those statements "were very hurtful" and he noted that now both are "at a point of no return".

"Some people can afford discourse that carry consequences that go beyond all understanding, and that I will never forget.

"At that time I considered that the line had been crossed. I select French players, they are all French and it never occurred to me not to select someone because of color or religion. And in the other direction, it would not occur to me to select someone by the same criteria, because it would be as serious or worse."
