Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler believes that even a half-fit Daniel Sturridge should make it into England's European Championship squad.

Sturridge has missed a large chunk of the current campaign with a host of persistent injuries and as a result, the striker's place in the England squad for this summer's Euro2016 is in doubt.

The 26-year-old marked this first league start since October with the opening goal in Liverpool's 6-0 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday and now former England international and Reds great Fowler has stated his belief that the striker is worth taking to France even if not at 100% fitness.

Fowler said: "Jamie Vardy is nailed on and he will probably go. Harry Kane, yes, nailed on. Wayne Rooney, nailed on. How many is he going to take? Four, or five?

"I'd take one more. If I'm being honest, Daniel Sturridge has only played a few games this year. He's not fit, but I'd still take him. They would be my four. It's a real, real headache, but it's a good headache for him (Hodgson) to have.

"You don't plan for the future at tournaments. You have to go with players how are doing well, who are confident and scoring goals. Jamie Vardy has been the most consistent forward in the Premier League for me, so he has to go.

"Wayne Rooney, again, is still a fantastic player, but I wouldn't have him as the nine, I think he needs to play behind the main striker as he doesn't have the legs he used to have.

"But Daniel Sturridge, if he's half fit, he has got to go. He is a tremendous player who can get a goal out of nothing, and that's something England might need."
