Former Middlesbrough defender signs for Cardiff

Cardiff City have signed former Middlesbrough defender Chris Riggott on a free transfer. The 30-year-old centre-half has been training with the Bluebirds for some time but question marks were raised about his fitness, having been plagued by injuries in recent seasons.

Riggott spent the last seven years with Boro but rejected the offer of a new contract at the end of the last campaign.

Manager Dave Jones confirmed earlier in the week that the Championship club would be keen on signing the former England Under-21 international if he proved his fitness.

Concerns emerged after Riggott suffered knee and calf injuries during training with Cardiff, but having passed a medical, terms have now been agreed.

The former Derby County man will not be available for Saturday's clash with Ipswich.
