Former Arsenal youngster frustrates Ipswich boss

Paul Jewell admits former Arsenal youngster Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has potential, but the frustration for the Ipswich boss is to get that promise realised. The 20 year old started his seventh consecutive match on the bench on Tuesday before eventually coming on as a substitute.

"We have bought potential, there is no doubt about that - but he just sometimes finds the simple things difficult," Jewell told the East Anglian Daily Times.

"He is frustrating as he can look lazy, but that doesn't mean he is. He just, mentally and physically, found it a bit tougher than he thought it would be.

"He has shown flashes, bits and pieces, but he hasn't shown enough consistency - but you do get that with young players.

"But he is only 20 and he has got a lot to learn. Maybe this time next year he might be that player everyone is talking about."
