Brazilian Alexandre Pato claims Manchester United attempted to sign him during the summer transfer window.

The former AC Milan striker was being shopped around to a host of Premier League clubs, including Sunderland and Tottenham.

But it has emerged the Red Devils also made a play for the 26-year-old Corinthians attacker who is currently on loan at Sao Paulo.

"I won't lie: two hours before the deadline I had a really good offer from Manchester United," Pato revealed.

"I was expecting it, but actually only found out about it afterwards."
