Former Aberdeen defender McGuire in talks with New York Red Bulls

Former Aberdeen defender Phil McGuire is on the verge of a move to the USA.

The 29-year old says he is keen to make a life change and leave Scotland and has America in his sights.

He also revealed that he has spoken to struggling MLS club New York Red Bulls about a potential deal.

"This isn't something I've just thought up off the top of my head," McGuire said if his plans to move to the US.

"I've got a ten year plan to try and give my family the best life possible.

"I want to play out there but there are so many other opportunities.

"I'm looking at coaching, scouting, agency and media work.

"There are loads of things I believe I could do so sometimes you need to be brave and take the gamble.

"At the moment I'm talking to New York Red Bulls.

"It's coaching and playing but I'd rather focus on the playing side if I'm honest, so we'll see.

"You get to the stage where it's now or never for something like this. I'm at that stage."
