Florent Cuvelier happy with his progress at Stoke City

Florent Cuvelier is happy with his progress at Stoke City.

Big things are expected from the exciting Belgian talent.

"I started to play when I was four years old," he recalled to The Sentinel, "and I played for a small club just five minutes away from my home.

"When I was 15 I moved to England. I had played with the national team and scouts from Portsmouth were there. I decided to go to Portsmouth because I knew at 15 I wanted to be a professional and England is one of the best countries to play football.

"Anderlecht is a great football club, but watching the game in Belgium and in England is not the same."

He says his three heroes are Andreas Iniesta, Steven Gerrard and Cristiano Ronaldo. And, with the slightest prompt, Salif Diao, too.

"Centre midfield is my best position. I play to attack and go forward and obviously to score goals. I like to play box-to-box.

"Hopefully next season I will go out on loan to a Football League club to get experience and to grow up.

"I want to play against men and play to win. When you play youth team you play full on, but in the first team you play to win."
