Flamengo have turned down the chance to sign released Atalanta striker Christian Vieri.

"Vieri was offered to us, but we turned him down," Flamengo vice-president Kleber Leite revealed yesterday.

"Without the aid of a sponsor, we are not able to pay for his contract."

Vieri, 35, has also been linked with LA Galaxy.
