Fiorentina's Mutu relief over Chelsea fine suspension

Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu is pleased to see his fine owed to Chelsea suspended.

The Romanian had been ordered to pay £14.6 million compensation by the Court of Arbitration for Sport after failing a drugs test in 2003.

Mutu lodged an appeal to the Swiss Federal Court and this afternoon it was accepted, temporarily suspending the fine.

"The situation is still very delicate, so it's better not to talk about it," the player told local newspapers from international duty in Romania.

"I will only discuss the national team and can say that with Mircea Lucescu we work in a similar way to Fiorentina."

If Mutu is remaining tight-lipped, then Victor Becali from his management team is more enthusiastic.

"It is going to be a tough battle, but I'm convinced we can do it. We're happy and optimistic," the agent told sport.ro.

"Of course, if Mutu had stayed with us the whole time, this would never have happened, but there's no point discussing it now.

"Mutu is happy and will play a great game for Romania against Serbia. We hope this whole matter will be resolved by the end of the year."
