Fiorentina legend Antognoni: Prandelli will rescue Italian football

Italy World Cup winner Giancarlo Antognoni is confident the nation's fortunes will improve under new coach Cesare Prandelli. Prandelli now takes charge after Marcello Lippi's squad was dumped out of the World Cup by Slovakia.

"Prandelli will give us a young Nazionale ahead of the European Championship," said the 1982 World Cup winner.

"He'll stick with the youngsters that are already in the squad and he'll add more."

Former Fiorentina boss Prandelli was confirmed as Italy's new boss before Lippi took his boys out to Africa.

"It was a horrible elimination," added the Viola legend. "We should have at least got past the first round. It may have been right to have doubts about how far we could go, but the first round…"
