Liverpool managed to go a goal ahead straight after the break despite the fact that Reds first-gamer Joe Cole was sent off right on the half-time break for a challenge on Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny.p>
David N’Gog fired home at the near post almost immediately after the re-start after a threaded ball from Javier Mascherano to give the Reds the lead.

And they looked set for an opening day victory until goalkeeper Pepe Reina made a blunder on the line to hand Arsenal an equaliser and a share of the points just before Gunners debutant Koscielny was sent off for a second bookable offence for handball.
