Fernandes: Man Utd captaincy an honour

Bruno Fernandes says he is honoured to be Manchester United captain.

The midfielder took the armband from Harry Maguire, who remains part of the squad.

Fernandes said, "The expectations are big, as always. We play for Manchester United, so we know how big it is, how much we need to do to always compete at the highest level and the expectation is always to be front-footed.

"Trying to be in all the competitions until the end. The approach is always the same, he [Erik ten Hag] is someone who looks at the details, someone who wants us to perform at our best level and he's hungry for more.

"I see it more as an honour than a responsibility. It's obviously a responsibility being captain of this massive club, but for me, it's more of an honour than that. So it won't change anything. I want to be a better player.

"I want to be lifting trophies even more now I'm captain because you get those special moments. We have a lot of leaders in the team, we have a lot of people capable of that work and that helps me get everyone on the same page."
