Manchester United boss acknowledged it was his team selection which caused his team to struggle into the last 16 of the Europa League after a 2-1 home defeat to Ajax left United holding on at the end for a 3-2 aggregate win.
"But leading two-nil from the first leg it was great opportunity to bring them back into the team as they have great potential. But it was more their lack of experience in Europe which was the problem
"For a European night it was probably a bit too much, but we survived with a bit of luck and are through. It was an open game in the first half but we struggled in the second half.
"They got a break for their goal but it was probably deserved because they had played very well, but overall it was a nervy night. "I`ve got to accept responsibility for tonight`s performance. Playing a young back back four including Jones and Smalling was always a big ask in a European game but they needed the minutes as they have been out for so long.
