De Ridder left Saints earlier this summer to sign with Utrecht.
"I gave up almost three quarters of my salary to get away," De Ridder told Voetbal International.
"English football is a decadent world, a middle class does not exist. You need a big expensive car, otherwise they will not even know you're there.
"A smart car is very nice, but not everything for me. At De Graafschap I had a Citroen C1, a small one. Happiness is in other small things.
"Here everything is familiar again, everyone is normal. I even enjoy a simple breakfast, without the beans and bacon."
