FC Dallas centre-back George John is believed to be on the fringe of the USA national team.
The 26-year old for West Ham United loanee is also eligible to play for Greece but Dallas boss Schellas Hyndman suggests he is closing in on selection for Juergen Klinsmann's US squad.
"I think he is sitting there right on the edge," Hyndman said.
"I know [Klinsmann's] got other players he's looking at internationally, but if you can see a player more, like somebody in our league, whether it's George John or someone else, I think it's a great bene?t for him to have those guys in for camps."
However, John was not really getting carried away with the talk, saying he will alter his focus provided an opportunity comes his way.
"That would be a tremendous opportunity but at this point, my focus is just on playing with FC Dallas. If any international opportunity comes up, that would be great, but that's not where my focus is at all," he said.
