FC Basel 1-2 Bayern: Schweinsteiger lifts Munich to come-from-behind win

German international Bastian Schweinsteiger has helped lift Bayern Munich to a fighting comeback win over Swiss champions FC Basel in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The Group E fixture ended 2-1 to last season's competition runners-up despite Basel leading into the early stages of the second half.

Alexander Frei put his side ahead in front of home fans at St Jakob-Park when he curled an unstoppable shot into the top corner ion the 18th minute but that was seemingly the only joy Basel would have for the contest.

Schweinsteiger converted a penalty in the 56th minute after Benjamin Huggel had fouled Thomas Muller in the area before he sidefooted a Holger Badstuber free-kick into the back of the net with just a minute remaining to give Bayern maximum points on the road.

They now lead Group E with six points from their two matches as Basel slumped to their second defeat.
