FA CUP THIRD ROUND: Brighton survive scare at Wrexham as Birmingham eliminate Wolves

The final FA Cup third round replays have taken place tonight with Brighton & Hove Albion and Birmingham City getting through to the next phase.

Brighton managed to survive a scare against Blue Square Premier club Wrexham to win 5-4 on penalties after extra-time ended 1-1.

Andrew Morrell put the Welsh outfit ahead in the 23rd minute before Seagulls substitute Ashley Barnes grabbed a 77th minute leveler before the match was forced into a penalty shootout.

Brighton keeper Peter Brezovan saved Dean Keates' first spot kick before all other players scored with Craig Mackail-Smith sending his effort home with power to send Gus Poyet's men into the fourth round where they will host Newcastle United on January 28.

In the other third round replay tonight, Birmingham edged Midlands rivals Wolves 1-0 at the Molineux thanks to Wade Elliott's finish from pointblank range to set up a fourth round trip to Sheffield United.
