FA appoint coach of England's Under-16

The Football Association has named Steve Cooper from Liverpool's academy as head coach of England's Under-16 team. "I am very proud and privileged to have been offered the role of U16 head coach in what I think is a really exciting time for youth development football in this country," said the 34 year old.

"I've been fortunate to work within the FA for a year now, working with all the professional clubs as a youth coach educator. This is something I really believe in and I hope to help evolve in the future.

"I'm really honoured and excited to get the role but this is not about me, my priority is to provide the best opportunity to the best young players in the country to maximise their development and progression.

"At this age group we have to be conscious of the players age and it is still very much at looking at the players and their future potential and their performance levels.

"We want to create the right environment for the players to develop by playing exciting attractive football that fits into the future of England's philosophy."
