Former West Ham United fullback Glen Johnson has questioned the signing of Jarrod Bowen.
Johnson says the arrival of the former Hull City midfielder could be viewed as a player in preparation for the Championship.
He told the Daily Star: "Are they tactically buying that player and thinking 'well we might be down, but he's a great player for the Championship next year'. Hopefully not.
"Fingers crossed he goes in and does wonders - but you can't pin your survival hopes on him.
"He's obviously a young kid and is walking into a league that's completely different.
"Many people make the jump and don't succeed, so I'm praying he's not one of them.
"There's such a big gap between the Championship and Premier League, all of a sudden lads are playing against world-class defenders.
"He's not necessarily going to be flying from day one."
