Former Real Madrid and Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart is set to make his professional darts debut.

Van der Vaart will enter the Denmark Open in Esbjerg, where he now resides, having finished his playing career in the Danish top flight.

He will compete along with brother Fernando at the event on May 4 and 5.

The Danish Open is largely made up of little-known Scandinavian dart players.

The 36-year-old has been a long-term fan of the arrows with several of his countrymen among the sport's top stars.
