Ex-Sangiovannese captain Caleri tells Chelsea players: Sarri a football obsessive

Former Sangiovannese captain Cristiano Caleri is delighted for Maurizio Sarri over his appointment at Chelsea.

The pair worked together at Sangiovannese.

Caleri told the Mirror: “In his house in Vaggio (a small village near Florence) there is one entire room dedicated to football.

"Even then you could tell that he was leaving nothing to chance.

“It was 15 years ago and we were playing in Italy's fourth division but even then he had the habit to study his opponents by watching videotapes and that's how he got to know me as a footballer.

“He told me that I should be captain because my charisma fit the role but, on the other hand, he added that I had to change my tactical approach. He wanted me to be more aggressive and play the ball more vertically: his football manifesto.

“Set pieces are one his strong points. He worked hard on that side of the game and had so many schemes and during trainings he used to give us players the signal to 'attack' the ball in order to get on it at the right time and before our opponents.

“He took care of every single detail and it's not surprising to see that he still does the same at higher levels.

“Now he has much more experience and self confidence also because he has been working with some important players."
